Many years ago I had a serious riding accident, as my horse reared, threw me to the ground and rolled on me. My friend used her mobile phone to call an ambulance.
As I lay on the stretcher the paramedic held my hand and cracked jokes. Placing my hands across my chest he put my riding hat on top.
‘Hold on I am not dead yet’ I said with a weak smile.
His kindness and reassurance made the journey to the hospital much less of an ordeal. I have so much admiration for their strength and kindness, and I cannot thank them enough for looking after me on the day of my accident.
